This design-build project replaced the failed freshwater piping at Pier 3 that services ships docked to the pier. The scope of work included complete replacement of the main water lines, service connections, valves, supports, hold downs, and thrust blocks to meet and exceed full capacity of current system. The new system installation included freeze protection devices and components to meet energy saving directions.  The design layout was configured so that the location of piping and supports would not reduce the access to the tunnel or other utilities.  Incidental work included capping and plugging or removal of existing utilities determined to obstruct the new installation.  All penetrations through the tunnel were sealed to prevent water from entering the tunnel. Flushing and water quality testing were performed after completion of installation.
