TYPE III HYDRANT FUEL SYSTEM
This project consisted of updating an old Type II hydrant fueling system to meet the requirements of a new revised DOD Type III system. The project included removing existing pumps, filter separators, valves, and controls, and providing a new shelter with a 2,400-Gallon-Per-Minute pumphouse, hydrant fuel pits, flange pits, hydrant fuel loop piping, two new 10,000-barrel aboveground storage tanks with aluminum floating pans, and incidental work.
Demolition included the removal of three aboveground storage tanks (one at 5,000 barrels and two at 2,500 barrels), a couple of underground waste fuel tanks, a pump station feeding ten hydrant outlets and lateral control pits, and grout capping approximately 7,500 linear feet of underground receipt and issue piping.
The new mechanical fuel system included a unique leak detection pump and pressure monitoring system that added motor operators to several of the plug valves in the pumphouse.
