This design-build project provided sewer utility forcemain repairs in the southwest area of Naval Base Kitsap at Bremerton.  A portion of the sanitary sewer force main was replaced as well as a wye and branch line and several valves. The design incorporated provisions to facilitate the use of in-line inspection and cleaning tools and provided the quality and durability for a 75-year service life in an aggressive environment. The new force main is polyethylene encased epoxy-lined ductile iron pressure sewer piping.  The project required engineering analysis of corrosion control to determine replacement requirements of the existing cathodic protection.   The replacement system included air relief and vacuum breaker devices, filtered air venting for odor prevention, and a design with launch/retrieve access points to allow for future internal inspections and cleaning using in-line inspection tools (pigs).
