Ammunition Pier Structural Integrity Repairs, Indian Island, WA

This project required the removal of 9 existing concrete piles followed by the installation of 9 new concrete piles. Existing piles were removed to the mudline. New pile installation required water-jetting to within three to five feet of final tip elevation and impact hammer driving to final tip elevation. Pile removal and installation occurred at three separate locations – CVA/AOE Pier, DLG Pier, and the Operations Building Pier.

Additional requirements included demolition of the concrete deck and building roof sections to facilitate pile installation, followed by restoration of concrete deck and building roof sections. New pile caps and extensions of existing pile caps were constructed for the newly installed piles. Installation and connection of cathodic protection systems were required as well as recoating of steel fender piles and wale above water. Incidental work included repairing spalling piles and pile caps, replacing corroded or missing utility hangers, repairing damaged utilities, and repairing damaged lighting.
