Building 191 HEAF Atrium Conversion

This project was awarded to Nova Probst, A Joint Venture, at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), CA. The construction work was located at Building 191 (B191) which is also referred to as the High Explosives Application Facility (HEAF). The scope of work was to convert an existing approximately 2,200 square foot atrium (or uncovered courtyard) into a blast-resistant, explosive test and material storage area, and remediate known accessibility issues. Building 191 is a mission critical research facility that had to remain occupied and operational to the greatest extent possible during construction. The work included demolition of the existing concrete atrium including concrete and utilities, construction of new concrete footings, slabs, and walls, hot fluid applied rubberized asphalt waterproofing, thermoplastic membrane roofing, doors and hardware, gypsum board, tiling, paint, interior electrical, fire sprinkler system, plumbing, and HVAC. It also included exterior electrical work to include low voltage electrical, civil work to include clearing and grubbing with minor excavation and backfill, as well as exterior improvements to include minimal pavement markings and a tactile warning surface.
