Repair Utilities, NWS Earle, NJ

For this design-build project, Nova Group Inc. served as a specialty subcontractor, performing the majority of the project requirements. This project included the complete replacement of the utilities (potable water, sanitary sewer, and heat trace systems) along the two-mile long Trestle 1A and Wye area that had been damaged during Superstorm Sandy in 2012. Partial repairs were also performed on the utilities throughout Trestles 3A and 4 and Piers 3A & 4, which included potable water, sanitary sewer, and steam systems. The work also included the demolition of concrete edge beams and support beams on Trestle 1A, and the installation of 40-foot and 60-foot long precast concrete beams to support the new potable water and sanitary sewer system piping. Isolated concrete spall repairs were performed on Trestles 1A, 3A, and 4.

The electrical work included demolition, repair, or replacement of the damaged foundations and electrical switchgear and equipment at the Shoreside Substation and Green Drive Substation, and in Switching Stations S63 and S455.  All damaged sections of electrical cables and heat trace system conduit and wires from the “A” and “D” shore-side substations to the S-63 switching station were also removed and replaced. The work also included removal and replacement of the associated damaged cable supports and cable straps. Additionally, approximately 3,200 linear feet of damaged sections of the 4,160-volt cables and conduits from the “E” shore side substation to the trestle substation were also replaced.
